Old Quotes

  • ...Oh goodie. I have become the convenience store of ranksets. In fact, we're having a sale in Aisle 3. TMP and TWOK ranks are 25% off the normal price. Grab 'em while supplies last!
  • "We are the Ranks! Lower your firewalls and surrender your sites. We will add our images and coding to your own. Your RPG simms will adapt to use us! Resistance is ...colorful? ...Beautiful? ...Ergh ... You pick!"
  • 26,000+ Ranks, 290+ Forum Members, 50+ Unique Rank Styles, 25+ Flash Movies, 6 Banners, 2 Official Partnerships, 1 Forum ... No interviews.
  • What the hell?! We got a change in our domain name!
  • 26,000+ Rank Images Strong!
  • 27,000+ Rank Images Strong, not counting the Guest Ranks!
  • The Kuro-chan Supermarket! Once again, this site has become a large-scale warehouse full of goods which people are more than happy to contribute to, take, take, take more of, etc... We have sub-divided our ranks into aisles... In Aisle 3 you can find the Anime Ranksets, sitting somewhere between the canned vegetables and dry pasta. But I refuse to have specials on ANY of the sets this time! No 25% TOS sets, or 30% Movie Era sets... Maybe 10% off the VOY sets if people are nice enough.

Smells like kitty around here... and hairballs...

Kitty Collar Rankset has been added to Kuro-RPG. It falls under the Misc. ranks.

A couple more fixes/updates were made to the Rank Pages. Thanks to those who pointed them out.

August 13th, 2008

... Updates? Naaah!

Actually, yes. There is a new rankset on the forum in use. You can click here to take a peak if you wish to. I wouldn't mind. Honest... :)

Some fixes/updates were made to Rank Pages, Links and Fanmail... And especially the Donation page. I did not realize I mistakenly put down someone twice for a donation... Oopsie. I won't complain either if you want to look... Honest... :)

Ranks for anyone and everyone! Wheee!

August 5th, 2008

A... Forum?

The new Kuro-RPG forum is accessible via the top button on the side bar. Feel free to click and explore, though there is currently little to offer on the site. Also, there are probably still little settings here and there that still need tinkering / adjusting. It is still a work in production. Patience, please. :)

Ranks for all!

Holy Fudge Nuts! An update that took less than two weeks to occur!

Little updates can be found here and there. The biggest one is an overhaul of the Babylon 5 rankset. The "Revised Edition" now uses a 2-piece rankset where you combine 2 images to create your custom design... Hopefully it is the sort of design that might make JMS proud...? (But do not worry... I left the older, more dated version on the site still).

And for some good news... Marriott's Site is only temporarily down and should be back up soon once he gets back home and gets it working again. We can insert a "Yay" here as one of the biggest rankset legends is still sticking around.

Happy Mew to all.

I hate bad news... I really do... >_>

Special thank you to Presley Ferguson (Website) for pointing out a very ugly error in my Bajoran Silver ranks. Apparently, I had saved one of my images as two different names, and it ended up overwriting the proper one. It's been fixed. I think what amazes me more is how old the set is (2+ Years)... And now someone caught my boo-boo... Wow indeed. ^_^;

I also found another very ugly error in the TNG Special Edition set. It looks as though I misaligned the Provisional O-4 gold pips when I was putting everything together (Which is very possible when trying to do 1,000 rank images in a single day). ... That has been fixed as well.

Speaking of TNG sets, there is an Alpha Channel Test done up using just the TNG Special Edition red background. If the feedback is practical and positive enough, I would be able to finish off the series (Oddly enough, this series would be much easier to finish than the DS9 one... That is still a heavy project to try and finish.)

Now for the bad news... I do not know how long ago all this happened, but I was looking up some of my competition (Which I like to do because I am curious) and I could not find ANYTHING on Steve Marriott's old RPG-Insignias site. The regular website address is clickable Here, but I cannot get it to work. I also cannot get any information on Brian Minosh and his classic work. These guys' work can still be found everywhere and it worries me to see a couple of the original legends disappear like this. Granted, there are probably lots of archives all over the place, but with the root sites gone, it feels like a huge chunk of rank-making history is suddenly... gone. If anyone has any information on this, I would be privileged to find out what is going on, please and thank you.

Bonus: I updates the Links pages, removed dead ones and added a couple special ones too.

Happy ranking, everybody.

July 28th, 2008

Ah, the joys of being a weirdo... yay. ^-^

It's amazing how long a dead link can stay on the website for before someone notifies me of a boo-boo I made. In the Retro Ranks section, there is a dead link to one of the DS9 sets. That has now been repaired. Thank you, Josh, for catching that for me.

Me = Still Alive? I like to think so...

- There is an extended Alpha Channel version of the Future Imperfect series, complete with 10 different department colors... Why anyone needs 10 different department colors, who knows. :p
- ShiFt has a new set up in the Guest Ranks section... Well, not exactly "new", but very complete.

I think I may have lost some emails. If you had emailed me in the last while and have not received a reply, feel free to try again. Thanks.

Update: I also received the following comment as a result of posting the new Future Imperfect ranks.

Kuro_chan

Thank you for putting up the Future Imperfect Complete Set. As a fan of your work and a Star Trek fan I find your site indispensible for all my Star Trek comm badges needs I have nothing but respect for your artistic skill. Keep up the good work. One of your fans,

Arron Branston AKA Arron Terial

Happy "Middle of the Month" Day.

- Special thanks to Micheal Garcia for chipping in another donation.
- Hadouken_Dude's latest flash contributions can be found on his page. Two new entries: Sprite TV 2 and Four Swords Misadventures #5
- Shadow Warrior Luke's comic has seen another update. Page #28 is up and on the site.
- A new rankset has been made but there is no page for it yet as currently there is no generic set. There has been a lot of effort, thought and consideration put into this one, despite the few number of images there are. It has been one of my more difficult sets to complete. The demo for the rankset can be found here

As for me, I have not been dilligent in answering emails lately. I will try to catch up with them when I can. For now, please enjoy what is currently available on the site.

March 18th, 2008

Not as around as I would prefer, but...

There has not been a lot of opportunity to do much besides the little bits of fanmail, a comic page and banner updates that I posted. Work has been more taxing on me than usual and with an anime show to work almost every weekend the last couple months, it has been difficult to get anything done. However, I will see what kind of time I have for this work in the future. Do not give up hope... please.

February 25th, 2008

Err... What happened?

Today was kind of weird. I found 6 emails in my account about the site and stuff and I also found myself more able to pay for my webhost costs, thanks to a very kind and considerate donation from Captain Solei of 8th Fleet. Way to make me feel more confident about my site. Now I feel inclined to put more work into the site given I was shown how much people can care about my work. ^__^

February 24th, 2008

Ha! I DO update once in a while!

There were some issues with the LoGH page I did up yesterday, namely in the link to the zip collection and the lack of a zip collection on the site. Those have been fixed and are now posted. Thanks for Michael Garcia for directing me toward this problem.

February 23rd, 2008

Ha! I DO update once in a while!

For something "Non-Trek" (Insert tiny yay) I put up the first half of the Legend of the Galactic Heroes "Galactic Empire" set. This features 38 ranks, one canon-style and one non-canon-style set. Might be worth a peak if you are looking for a set which has absolutely nothing to do with old, new or beyond modern-day Trek. You can find them under the "Anime Ranks" section, about halfway down the list.

Bravo Fleet links got an overhaul, and I even managed to throw in an extra one today.

February 18th, 2008

Attention All Super Kuro Shoppers: Express Checkout #6 is now avaliable!

Changes here, changes there. Thank you to Captain Solei of 8th Fleet for the direct quote above, the theme for the super-long quote mentioned on top and for baby-sitting me today and making sure I did not get into trouble (Another way of saying thanks for keeping me company while I went through the challenge that is this site).

The "Retro Ranks" section has been added to the site. Though it has a ways to go before complete, I posted it on there to show just how bad some of my old Pre-Kuro-RPG ranks were... (I am talking 2004 when these were made).

Found a couple bugs in the Donation page and one of the rank pages today. Those have been sprayed-- er um... fixed.

Shadow Warrior Luke has a new page for his running comic series. Video game lover may want to take note of this. They can found in his Guest Flash section.

With the addition of the Retro section, that brings up my total number of ranks on the site to 30,790.

February 17th, 2008

One more update today

I have added a "TOS Alternate Style" edition. 390 ranks in size and utilizes Alpha Channels for it to work with any background color, I am rather quite happy with how they turned out. They can found at the very bottom of the Trek Ranks main page.

With the TOS Alternate Style added to the site, that brings the number of rank images added to the site today up another 1595.

February 17th, 2008

Survived another "Festive" day... Hoorah!

There have been some updates, so I suggest attention to them is a good thing.

The DS9 Alpha Channel set got an update. It has gone from about 50 images to 175. I included one more color, the enlisted, warrant and cadet ranks so the gold naval ranks for 5 dept. color should be complete.

A Special Ops. set was made for "James" and has been posted on the site for all to view / be jealous of / appreciate / etc. It's close to 1100 images in size, so it is a reasonably large download (In Kuro-RPG terms).

Additional fanmail has been included. Otherwise, see ya until the next update!

February 14th, 2008

Cupid Arrows? Are they made from real Cupids?

Being one of those cutesy-wootsy days I cannot stand, I once again post my favourite flash movie to comemorate the day... The one that even Newgrounds kicked off... mwah ha ha ha.

I have been sick the last few days, so I have not done much in the way of work, bug fixes, etc. We'll see what the future holds.

The link to the flash movie was taken down so that it does not plan for the potential of months on end. For those who missed it, you can check out Shadow Warrior Luke's section under the Guest Flash. (Look to the right side of the screen for the button)

February 4th, 2008

Need... Anime... Substance... Survival... X_x

One minor addition to the site: There was a series of unofficial requests made about the 2800-series set, so it was expanded upon to include a silver variation of the rank pips. This could be doubled for either the Intelligence Ops. or the Provisional ranks I heard about. To those parties interested, you could try them out and see if you like them.

January 27th, 2008

Always stuff to do in these virtual woods... minus the trees... or paper mills... or bugs-- No wait... There are ALWAYS bugs... >_< Anyone got bug spray?

All the old Forum ranks have been posted in the Misc. section. There are 8 sets in total.

Finally got around to adding the Fanmail section on the website.

My last rank image count (Not including Guest Ranks) stands at 27,674

January 26th, 2008

Happy Belated Birthday to myself. So, I am sitting here drinking this icky yucky clear-green stuff and I am thinking to myself "Just who in their right mind would actually buy this? It tastes awful!" Luckily, there is lots of lemonade to help kill the taste! ^_^

Battlestar Galactica ranks got an overhaul. I posted a Revised set which makes good use of alpha channels. Like the old set, they are available with collars, and as pips-only.

I finished revising Shadow Warrior Luke's guest section again. Now it includes an old comic project he started on a while ago.

Additional referrences to the now non-existent forums has been removed from more pages.

January 19th, 2008

It's supposed to be bedtime, not site time.

The forums have been removed from Kuro-RPG leaving just the website available. I left my contact information options available should someone need to try to contact me. Thanks to Shawn for putting so much recent effort into trying to stabilize the forum, but unfortunately it's impossible to revive a dead community. If the forums come back, it won't be for a vey long time, to say the least.

January 15th, 2008

Okay, so I am a Jerk and have sunk the site to a new low... And I care why?

I have changed the content of the information page. I have mentioned before on the page that I am not taking requests, but I am going to make this even more clear on the information page as I have removed any comments made in the "Link to Me" information as well.

I have started to add Shadow Warrior Luke's work onto the site. I put on his Valentine's Special on some time ago, but I added in some of his other work to the site as well.

January 13th, 2008

Umm... Where exactly have I been? >_>

Sometimes I am not even sure myself, but I tried to get at least one update here this year.

In short though, it's been a busy few months for me, and my relative "want" to work on this site has been very low with about three or four times I have considered just closing the forum or both the forum and site, especially with some of the nasty emails I have been getting as to why the special test with the DS9 set I did some time ago was not finished. To sum it up, it's tough work and I have to customize every single rank with that to try and make it work... it's rather discouraging, especially when people bug and nag and threatened and flame and other stuff. (I'm talking about 50 emails, if you can believe it, and only very few of them were polite). This is not some high-paying job here, folks! IF I choose to work on anything, it is done on MY free time. I pay for the site out of either MY pocket of with the few donations that generously come in.

To complicate matters, work has been an absolute hell the last three months, with my boss threatening me, screaming at me, yelling at me, playing the complete "Ignore Me" routine, threatening me with suspension and a ton of other crap from both boss and other people I am stuck working around... To think of the level of incompetence, it's practically unbelieveable. I am not sure if she will read this, but a special thank you to my co-worker Theresa. You really have no idea how big a help you have been. You have helped keep me relatively sane and grateful that at least someone there can give a damn about me, or else I probably would have quit, tried something stupid and either been in the hospital or dead. Again, thank you.

I did post a new rankset on the site. It's a small set of Dominion ranks for Jem'Hadar units. It can found in the Trek Rank section.

Anything else, well I may or may not be around. I should be getting around to emails eventually. Ja na.
