Old Updates

September 23rd, 2007

Alright, something different!

I have completed a test for a run of DS9 ranks using alpha channels. Essentially, this set will be able to work with any background color, wether it is black, grey, blue, white or maybe even plaid... Feedback on plaid might be a good idea. The test is available on the ranks page. (Situated with the other DS9 sets)

I REEEEALLY need to update the front page once in a while...

Okay, the site is revised, and it looks very very purple. In addition, there were a few minor changes to the page layouts, mostly with the update archives and the rank pages. A couple tiny ranksets were added on, and lots and lots of side buttons were added on.

Also, please don't forget to update your links to the site. I still see some sites still using the old link with the (.com) ending, instead of the (.net) ending... It leads to a dead link, even though it's under my name, I can't get it and I won't be able to touch it until it expired next April... grr...

Box Test

I am testing the revised Updates page to see how it looks with the new box style.

And they are back up.

Figures... Within 10 minutes of me posting this notice, everything goes back to normal.

Forums are currently down.

The forums are down at the moment. I have no explanation for why but they will be back up as soon as possible.

Just a teeny-tiny minor update

The Voyager Special Edition set got an addition: Flag Officer ranks. Yes, I know they are not canon (but that does not stop people from asking me and asking me and asking me about them) so they are now available as a seperate .zip or part of the complete .zip.

Reminder to everyone using Kuro-RPG ranks: PLEASE update your link and contact information to include the change in email and domain name. Please refer to the Information Page for details on what you can use.

June 12th, 2007

The site is now http://kuro-rpg.net

Essentially, coutresy of a former server who abandoned their customers (and still left me with a bill), I could not salvage http://kuro-rpg.com. Therefore, I have switched over to http://kuro-rpg.net in the hopes of continuing this site. Should kuro-rpg.com open up again, I will consider taking it back and leaving .net open.

To everyone using Kuro-RPG ranks: PLEASE update your link and contact information to include the change in email and domain name. Please refer to the Information Page for details on what you can use.

A big, super, ultra, gigantic and rather overkill thank you to Shawn Terry of Soul Writing for helping to make kuro-rpg.net a reality when the entire situation may have been impossible to save.

Dale Smith / Markbell has chipped into the ever-expanding budget of Kuro-RPG. Thank you for your support, especially during this age of chaos.

The last five non-zipped rank collections are now zipped up and anyone hotlinking the existing batch will be in for a very rude surprise July 1st when the old domain is gone.

Special Flash Guest Artist MARKED Man finally found one of his oldest and most unique flash movies he created: The Kawaii-Neko Club Sprite Comics. This was dedicated to the many members of the Kawaii-Neko Club (Including myself).

"Site Polishing"

As it says in the title... "Site Polishing" I am touching up areas here and there, trying to give the site a "slighty" more professional and serious look.

May 21st, 2007

"One piece of good news anyway."

Cardassian ranks are finished. There are three varities available for those who wish to download them. They are available as .zip only.

"A weekend gone and another week at work to come."

Despite being at an anime show for most of the weekend, I managed to sneak on one rank template. The Special Edition Line Template is up. This set covers ranksets from ENT, TOS, TMP, TNG and beyond. Useful for general information pages that want to show the difference between pips from different eras.

"Boredom: The classic example of having nothing to do but wanting to do something."

I know I said I would be giving until last Saturday for the DS9 sets before they were replaced by zips, but like anything else Kuro-chan associated, It is still in the works. I'll get to it soon enough.

Alternate Style #3 is up on the site. This style is a considerable detour from the normal DS9-style uniform and might be worth a look for those who want something "Alternate".

"If you were hotlinking off my site, you are probably wondering what is going on."

Now that I have finished what I wanted to do this week, I will explain what I have done. As you, the regular Kuro-RPG browsers, may recall earlier in the year I set a goal for myself. I wanted to convert all the ranksets from the current established format into .zip files which are made available for download. Well, that goal is nearly finished. I have converted everything except the DS9 Duty and Dress sets, my most heavily hotlinked items. I left those intact to give the remaining hotlinkers until Saturday to find a suitable free host for their ranksets. If you check the Terms and Conditions section of Kuro-RPG (Under the Information button at the top menu), you will find the following:

Hotlinking: Hotlinking to my ranks is strictly prohibited. There are plenty of freeservers where you can host the rank images, plus I need my bandwidth for my regular traffic.

This is not new information and has been up there since the start of the site. Nonetheless, I can access my FTP server and see who has been hotlinking images off my site. Over the last few months has increased to about 300 regular websites. That large amount of image hotlinking takes a significant chunk out of bandwidth. This is bandwidth I pay for and hotlinkers do not. As a result, I am passing the responsibility of bandwidth issues to those who actually use the rank images. There are a great number of websites that properly use the rank images and believe me I love to see them put to use. Unfortunately, because of the increasing number of people who skip my Terms and Conditions page and start hotlinking my content, this is now the result. I have to pack everything up so they cannot be hotlinked. I will leave samples of the work on my pages so people will be able to see what they will be able to download.

Banners Terms have not changed. They may still be hotlinked.

Other content going up on the site will now resume. :)

"Hehehe... Those suckers at my workplace are working... Well, so am I, except they're getting paid... which makes me realize I must be the sucker for doing this...?"

A lot more work has gone into the Ranks page today. It's not quite 100% done, but getting there.

April 30th, 2007

"Work work work work work... WORK!!!"

I have been doing a lot of work on the site for the past week. Just to let you know, I am shuffling around some stuff right now, so some sections may not be working properly today. Just thought I would warn everyone.

April 21st, 2007

"60,000 Hits! Just a little more! Common, Kuro-RPG Fans and Viewers!"

A fair amount has been done over the past week, so I'll get to the point.

Movie Era Ranksets got an overhaul. I made a few modifications to the A2 and A3-Grade Flag ranks, plus added on some non-canon variants to keep certain interest groups happy. That brought the total number of ranks for this set up by about 100 or so. I added on A4 and O4 alternative ranks, for those who wish to play with non-canon variants. The entire Movie Era "Shoulder" Rankset has been packaged up and sorted neatly into a .zip file. The "Sleeve" variant needs to be touched up before it can be zipped up too.

TMP, Special Edition is available on the site. There are considerable changes to the rank style compared to the old set, mostly due to research tracked down. Special thanks to Spike's Star Trek Site for providing the available resources for making this project turn out as well as it did. Both the Standard and Special Editions are available on the site as .zip files.

Forum member Regemet made a kind donation to Kuro-RPG over the last week. Thank you for your generosity!

April 12th, 2007

"Wow. Someone from Glenview, Illinois, USA was REALLY bored..."

Hehe. I got attacked by a foreigner. (From my Canadian perspective). My domain & forum was under attack in such a way that the person attempted to crash a server operated hundred of miles from where I live... And now my forum shows I had 4747 users on my forum. Seriously, get a life. Grow beyond your "5-Year-Old" mentality and move on. Maybe get a real job, move out of your parent's basement... find a significant other? Any of those would certainly be an improvement for you. :) Have faith in the world! Someone is bound to like you when you don't pull these immature stunts. :D

The Full Metal Panic rankset is on the site and available for download as a .zip file.

A minor update on the ENT Special Edition set. Apparently, when I put the .zip up, I forgot to include three warrant officer ranks in the Dress section. Those have been added in and the .zip re-attached to the site.

I put my little speech up on the forum a couple days ago, remarking about the way things have gone on here for the last couple years. It can be accessed on the forum.

April 7th, 2007

"Happy Purple Day!"

A fair amount happening here today, given most of my day was spent in front of my computer trying to make this website look a little more pretty.

- The Fullmetal Alchemist "State Militaty" ranksets are up and available as two sets: Canon and Non-Canon. This option is available for those who wish to either to stick with the storyline or have a little variety with whatever they plan to use it for. Very Pretty!
- All the .zip pages were re-organized to look more presentable. All of them include a background image too related to the rankset in question. How pretty!
- Information page was updated to include additional Admin. and disclaimer information. ... Not pretty, I guess...

In a couple days, I will be presenting my "Two-Year" summary of Kuro-RPG since it went online April 10th, 2005. I guess I should start writing it up. :)

April 6th, 2007

"Hosting problems... Rank problems... Can I have a day without problems? Pleeeeease?"

Over the last couple days, following some rather generous donations to Kuro-RPG, I found myself wanting to expand my non-canon ranksets. As a result, I created another Trek-based rankset set for and early 23rd century Starfleet. The 2200-Series set is available on the Ranks page.

Hmm... Had to shuffle the Donation Page again, thanks to forum member Zarek making another nice contribution, bumping him back up to my Top Donator spot.

I found an oops. The Mirror Complete .zip was not installed on my site. That has now been corrected.

The Enterprise Standard and Complete rankset pages have small updates on them, mainly about the different uniform sets available.

And to top it off... My domain provider was down for a while, preventing me from updating until... well, until now. Sorry for any inconvenience.

April 3rd, 2007

*Passes out...*

Today in my email I found 2 people had donated to the site today, totalling an amount that would cover the website registreation costs, and then some more. Thanks to John Rule and Tom Farr for their very generous contributions to the website! I had to shuffle around the Donation page a lot to accomodate the considerable changes I had to make.

April 2nd, 2007

"You think I am posting an update on April 1st?! You HAVE to be kidding..."

A lot to say, so I'll try and keep things to the point.

- Vulcan High Command rankset is complete and available for download as a zip file
- Special Edition Enterprise rankset is complete and avaiable for download as a zip file
- All the Trek 22nd Century ranksets have been converetd to continue the trend towards making hotlinking more difficult. At the rate I am working on them, I might have these done by 2050. :p
- Kuro-RPG has received another donation today from Frank Deen, webmaster of Deep Space 9. Many thank-yous once again!

Kuro-RPG's 2-Year is coming up soon. I'll be sure to have another evalutaion of the last year posted on the website.

March 25th, 2007

"Forum Surprises!!! ... I don't like 'em when the surprise is WORK!"

I have been busy with the forum restoration and with additional commissions, so there has been little in the way of ranks being made, with the exception of new forum ranks. I won't complain about forum ranks. :)

March 17th, 2007

"Four Swords Misadventures Surprise!"

Victor Fiori (AKA: Hadouken_Dude) was nice enough to contribute two thing to Kuro-RPG in the recent while. First, we have a preview for the next LoZ: Four Swords Misadventures. He took the time to let us know that he has not forgotten about his Four Swords project and he intends to let us have another episode to watch. (Also, please don't mind out competitors' banner at the start of the preview). In addition, Victor won a flash art contest a while and kindly donated his winnings to Kuro-RPG. Many thank yous for your fine efforts towards our site. I know I certainly appreciate what you do for myself and everyone who visits here.

Update: Frank Deen made a very generous contribution to Kuro-RPG via donation, so I felt it was important to mention him as well. A big THANK YOU for your donation too. ^_^

March 14th, 2007

"Forum is online again."

Okie, the forum is back online, and to the best of my knowledge, it works (We even manged to fix the Email Validation problem which prompted the upgrade in the first place). Now, there are still a couple minor issues with the color settings and other odds and ends, but those should be fixed up in the next little while. There will also be a new custom-made rankset for the forum to go on soon enough.

March 11th, 2007

"Forum is temporarily closed."

We're in the middle of a forum upgrade (Finally...), so it will be down for a while. It should be back up in the next 2-4 days. In the meantime, feel free to look around the website and see what else Kuro-RPG has to offer.

February 14th, 2007

"See flash movie for details."

Today is the 14th of the month, which means it's a certain day of the year. I wish to take this chance to post a Flash Movie my friend Shadow Warrior Luke created. He has some work on Newgrounds and I have been bugging him to send me his stuff so I can host it here. Just to warn you, this flash does contain mature subject matter and language, so open it at your risk.

February 12th, 2007

"50,000 hits on the wall! 50,000 hits... la-la... la ... something."

I want to take a chance to promote this in the hopes it will grow into something considerably more serious. Radio 1 is an online radio site dedicated to various Simming groups. Feel free to check out their site should you wish to listen in to their programming, look into their schedule for when they are "On the Air", host the banner, download the banner, advertise this place in anyway you possibly can. The owners will not mind.

Special Edition TNG Rankset is now up and available as a zip file. 992 images later and forum member Vass is happy to be the first to download it. (And if that is his highlight of the day... I just do not know what to say to that ^_^; ...)

January 21st, 2007

"The campaign the curb Bandwidth Theft has begun!"

There are some changes coming to Kuro-RPG. Over the last six months, the amount of bandwidth theft which regularly occurs here has at least tripled. The stop this, I am making changes to how the ranksets can be obtained. All ranksets (over the coming months) will only be available as zip files.

Special Edition Voyager Rankset is now up and available as a zip file.

Special Edition DS9 and MACO have been taken off the site as individual images. They are now available as complete zip files.

January 8th, 2007

"Vacation is more or less over and I am back, but is that good or bad...?"

Special Edition MACO rankset is up on the site and available to view.

New donation, courtesy of Michael Alpert of USS Relentless His generous donation bumped him into second place in the Top Ten Donators, which also happened to fill up the entire chart. Any future donations, and I will have to start knocking donators off the Top Ten list.
